Analysis Paralysis: Don’t Do Nothing

feature photo

There aren’t just a few options anymore but limitless opportunities in this day and age of information and technology.  I had to purchase a kitchen faucet  for one of my properties recently.  I had a price range in mind but  stood there and starred at the wall of fixtures for about 30 minutes before I picked one.

Business on the Internet abounds with more complexity and opportunity than kitchen faucets.  Thousands of so-called  experts and their affiliates have the inside track on social networking, networking, SEO and selling online.

Seth Godin calls it a  paralysis of unlimited opportunity.  He says:  “You can spend your marketing money in more ways than ever, live in more places while still working electronically, contact different people, launch different initiatives, hire different freelancers… You can post your ideas in dozens of ways, interact with millions of people, launch any sort of product or service without a permit or factory.”

How do you choose what to do?  Here’s my two cents.  Just do what you love to do.  Pick a product or a service that serves people, meets a need, something YOU love.  Choose a business that YOU are passionate about.  Your intense enthusiasm for an interest, cause or activity will help you sort through all the quagmire and make a decision on what to do.

If our boats aren’t moving, we can’t steer them.  My advice is to get “in motion.”  Start moving in the direction of your chosen field.  Analysis paralysis is not very profitable and wastes a lot of time.   Put yourself in the environment by talking to people, reading, looking at pictures and videos on your business idea.  Start making small decisions.  You can make adjustments along the way.   Just start moving and do something that will help you make the bigger decisions later.  Don’t do nothing!
