Are You a Faceless Blogger? You Need an Avatar From Gravatar

feature photo

If you’ve ever made a comment on a blog and the little faceless Icon appears next to your comment, you’re a faceless blogger or at least a faceless contributor to the blog.

There’s a movie out called Avatar from director James Cameron.  The name reminded me of a great service for displaying your mug online called Gravatar.

Your Gravatar is an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things like comment or post on a blog. Avatars help identify your posts on blogs and web forums.  I used Seth Godin’s Mug here!

Don’t you hate it when people on Twitter or Facebook don’t bother to upload a picture of their face?  After all it’s “Facebook.” It’s easy to upload pictures on social networks but how would you like your face magically appear next to your comments on every blog automatically?  It’s really simple to do.   Putting your mug next to your comments is personal and helps build rapport.

Making comments on others blogs and forums is a way of edifying and contributing to your colleagues and fellow business associates and fans.  It’s also a great way to boost your SEO and track-backs for your own blog.   There’s a higher probability that someone will click on the link in your comment if your picture is displayed.  In today’s information overloaded communication age, a face is worth at least a 1000 words.  If you’re in business it’s important that we find you and connect with you.

Setting up your Avatar with Gravatar, is absolutely free.  You can register multiple emails with this service and anytime you comment on a blog the picture you upload to www.Gravatar.com will be associated with the email address and displayed.  See the example of my own comment on this blog post. Go a head set up your Avatar at Gravatar and post a comment on my blog.

  • As always, good read and helpful insight. Thank you.

  • Thanks for the comment. It's always nice to attach a face with the words. I find it difficult to relate with faceless icons!
